Here you will find many attractions both man-made and natural - sample the internationally renowned, locally produced wines from the region's 100+ wineries, climb Bluff Knoll or take the tourist drive through the heart of the Stirling Ranges, or, delight in the Karri forest in the Porongurup Range. Enjoy the locally produced arts and crafts, dine at one of our many local cafes and restaurants, or visit the local museum and art galleries. LATEST NEWS:While there aren't any events planned over the winter months this is a delightful time to travel to the Mount Barker region to experience a real winter. Curl up by a lovely wood fire, reading a good book, with a nice glass of local red wine and your family and/or friends. There is something very relaxing about sitting in front of a wood fire, reading and drinking a lovely wine. It is an experience everyone should experience at least once in their life. One other experience that is essential for any bush-walker (hiker) is to walk the trail to Castle Rock in the rain. The temperature rain forest and rocks take on a whole different feel with the rain, just make sure you wear good hiking boots and a long rain-coat or water-proof gear. The sound of the rain falling through the trees is like music, and seeing the clouds swirl around you is a wonderful experience. When you get home you can have a lovely hot bath and sit by the wood fire to warm up. The Old Police Station Museum is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10.00am and during school holidays. If you haven't been to visit this museum then I'd highly recommend taking the time out from your holidays. There are plenty of lovely historical displays, the old police station itself, plus old carriages and farm machinery. The gardens are absolutely beautiful with many roses to enjoy. The 2010 Calendar is available, and lists events available through the area. This is constantly updated so keep checking back for new events! Whilst in the Mount Barker area visit these other lovely towns, learn about their history, and visit their attractions.
